State Sen. Ted Kanavas (R-Brookfield) said Tuesday that he would not enter the race for U.S. Senate.
Kanavas said, however, that he had not ruled out a run for the Senate seat in the future.
"I've been blessed with support from around the state, but I've decided not to seek the Senate seat in 2010," he said.
With Kanavas out, that leaves three announced Republican contenders for the seat held by U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.). Announced candidates include Dick Leinenkugel, the former commerce secretary under Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle; Terrence Wall, a Madison developer; and David Westlake, a Watertown businessman.
Ron Johnson, an Oshkosh businessman, and Tim Michels, a North Lake businessman, are still deciding whether to enter the race.
