Ken Lewis, the African American attorney who finished third in Tuesday's Democratic Senate primary in North Carolina, is poised to play kingmaker in the June 22 run-off between Secretary of State Elaine Marshall and former state Sen. Cal Cunningham.
But Lewis, who captured 17 percent of the vote, told POLITICO he's not ready to weigh in just yet—and hasn't even decided whether he'll endorse at all.
"I'm focusing now on talking to my supporters, thanking them for their support and talking to them about where we go from here with this movement," he said in an interview. "We were surging as voters saw our campaign and heard our message. We just ran out of time."
Lewis said he has only spoken to Marshall and Cunningham during brief congratulatory calls on election night.
