| 1. Thanks a lot, Laura. Be the good little wife and shut the hell up, right? |
|
You stand by your drunken, idiot husband while he fucks over the world. You kept your mouth shut.
You were silent through the one man/one woman/sanctity of marriage crap.
You could have made a difference. You could have spoken up, but you didn't. You remained silent and let the idiots impact the lives of many gay people in this country.
Why now, Laura? Want to sell some books and need something scandalous to do it?
Go the hell away. Forever. And take your criminal family with you. Nazi supporters. Hate mongers. War mongers. Bigots. Idiots. Assholes. The Bush Family.

|
cope. They surround themselves with 'yes men,' and apparently 'yes women'. Doesn't surprise me.
I thought that both Barbara and Pappy Bush were moderate, pro-choice Republicans as well.
I truly believe that Dumbya isn't really anti-gay marriage or anti-choice. I think he knew that being so would help him win office. He's a charlatan and a crook who fucked this country up simply because Americans bought into that "compassionate conservative' bullshit.

| 8. First Ladies often have their own "pet projects" |
|
she could have made equality one of hers. The fact is, she didn't. She's no better than the rest of the bunch.
And HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT SHE DID ANYTHING? You want to take her word for it? She's an opportunist who stood by and allowed her husband to condemn others, and start wars based on lies.
She wants to sell books. That's it.

I mean ffs, is she going to publicly piss off pretty much every other puke over this, including her president husband? That's a bridge too far. She is saying it now after all, which counts for something. Good for Laura.

|
She said it was a "point of contention". Many couples have different opinions, that's nothing new. Too bad she wasn't president but she wasn't. Now, that was then and this is now so what's Obama done to change things?

| 12. Yeah, I read the article. I've read enough about the Bushes. |
|
The fact is, she did NOTHING. And now she can't really do much because she isn't the First Lady. She wants to sell books, and this revelation will likely do that.
Obama has done almost nothing for gay people except give them lip service, but there's still hope and time for him. We'll see. I find his disapproval of gay marriage to be very hypocritical, considering there are those who still find him unacceptable for any job other than a janitor due to the color of his skin.
Obama should know better, but he apparently doesn't. We'll see.

| 15. He extended medical rights to same sex couples nationwide. |
|
Those who said Obama would do nothing about gay rights this year have already been proven wrong. Others will be proven wrong again when DADT is repealed before he leaves office.
The president extended some benefits to the spouses of gay federal employees last June while voicing support for a House bill that grants them other rights. The State Department now allows married gay and lesbian couples to obtain passports with their married names. And the Census Bureau has agreed to release data on same-sex marriages.
It's not everything we want yet, but it's far from nothing and crickets.

| 11. Bushes have always played it this way...by design. Barbara always made sure it was hinted PUBLICLY |
|
that she was prochoice so moderate Repubs would feel secure voting for Poppy. In the 2000 election, Laura did the same....not flashy, but, quietly so the target audience would be aware of it and believe W was more moderate privately and only PLAYING to the RW.
She knows that family is evil and she goes along for the ride. She's only trying to make herself look better PUBLICLY and so the NEXT Bush running for the presidency can pull the exact same scams on the social moderates as they used before.

|
before this book. Even W's parents were pro choice before Bush accepted the offer for VP under Ronnie.
Barbara Bush defended herself and wiggled out of questions by stating, yea, but look at HOW MANY abortions are being performed in this country...blah blah blah.
I don't think W's fan base cared about what Laura thought, she had no power..and Laura certainly did nothing public to challenge her husband.

As a parent I don't understand how any mom with daughters can be against the ability for their girl to have a safe, legal medical procedure. That just makes no sense to me at all.

I cannot think of a time when a First Lady has engaged in public battle with her husband over policy, so I'm not sure what anyone was expecting.
Has that ever happened?

Has she ever supported a pro-choice elected official or policies advancing gay rights?
Dick Cheney claims he supports gay marriage too.
That's cool to be able to say that, but what have they done?

|
the relevance is that gay marriage is not a radical thing. Especially the way she says it, she says a lot of people are scared of gay marriage, but they shouldn't be. She could change some people's minds, or open their minds to being changed. People could see her and think, she's right, I am scared but maybe I shouldn't be. Laura isn't scared, why should I be?

the relevance is what it says about gay marriage. The RW is telling people that gay marriage is scary, that it will cause the end of America. People are going to hear her and say, why would Pickles want to end America?

| 23. We knew in 2000 that the Bush women (plural) are pro-choice. Totally irrelevant, though... |
|
Their husbands made reproductive policy based on appeasing their RW base, and nothing else.
As for Barbara and Laura Bush, they made their marital beds and have chosen to lie in them. Their choice.

No one cares--and if she really felt that passionately about these things, she'd have brought them to his attention.

| 27. The bushes have a history of hiding their true feelings on abortion |
|
I remember hearing around when Ford died a news story about Ford being disappointed with how far right the GOP was moving, and he specifically mentioned that he was also very disappointed with the elder Bush and his wife because, in his words, "I know damn well they're both pro-choice" and he didn't like how they hid it/denied it. When asked about Ford's accusations Bush claimed it wasn't true, but his wife admitted to being pro-choice.
