| Question about some interesting OH primary election results: |
|
I heard a story on local NPR station that sitting Governor Strickland received over 100,000 less votes than his republican opponent, Kasich, although they said you couldn't infer much from these numbers. They also said a poll showed that the majority of voters didn't know enough about Kasich. I went to the OH SOS website and found these results:
Governors Race:
Strickland (D) 620,963 Kasich (R) 735,790 difference of 114,827
Senate Race:
Fisher (D) 374,633 Brunner (D) 298,964 Dem total= 673,597
Portman (R) 657,354
My question is why did over 50,000 Dems elect to not vote for Strickland? Does this show a problem or since he was unopposed did they not bother? Also, seeing much lower Dem turnout are the Dems looking at a problem in November? There was a very heated ( Fisher was endorsed by the DSCC way before primary and almost by the ODP before a 74,000 voter campaign stopped the ODP endorsement. There was also a late hour false accusation run in papers by a Fisher endorser against the progressive Brunner saying she was a bad Dem for not saying she would endorse/work for Fisher when she said her role as OH SOS would not allow her to endorse any candidate while she oversaw the election) Senate race in the Dem primary that left many progressive feeling alienated from the ODP. Shouldn't the Dem Party be worried?

... we have to all bust our respective hind ends for the next few months or we're going to have a LOT bigger problem than too many Blue Dogs in Congress. As often as I hear people (rightfully) upset over a lack of progressive legislation in Congress, I'm surprised more aren't talking about doing more. It's not like the GOP is know for looking out for the interest of the people. We're going to go from bad to MUCH MUCH worse if we dont get on the stick.

| 6. I will NEVER work for either but will down ticket for a progressive. |
|
My fear is Fisher's GOTV efforts will be injured by those progressives like me angered by his campaign's dirty tricks toward Jennifer. I've already heard from several very hard working progressives that they'll follow suit & direct their efforts down ticket. Can't see many of the big $ donors doing much more than writing checks and that alone doesn't win elections, any more.

In my case it was because he (Strickland) and others trying to freeze Jennifer out of the process. His endorsement of Fisher and Fisher's low rent slime ball attack on Jennifer w/ a made up attack left me cold.
But I will vote for both Fisher and Strickland in the fall.

| 3. When our shiny new Governor Strickland put his nose up Hillery's behind well... |
|
let's say that took some of the polish off of the apple. I will vote for Strickland in the fall but there was no need to pad the count in the primary. As far as Brunner goes, she said Ohio's voting machines were easily hackable and then proceeded to move on to another elected position before protecting the voting system. I think it was premature for her to be running for a new office. I voted for her but was pretty sure that she would not win. I realize Strickland and Brunner have been saddled with Rethuglican wackos to work with but hey this is Ohio and that is nothing new. We will be in danger of having the AZ anti citizen law this fall and then folks will have something to talk about.

| 4. No, I don't think so.... |

IMO, Strickland's campaign associating Kasich with Wall Street is extremely effective.
I also feel that not a lot of folks bother to vote in the primaries.

| 5. definitely low voter turnout, but less turnout in an non-presidential fall election |
|
so the Dem Party needs to ramp up their efforts since it appears the GOP is more mobilized.

| 7. Hey, Strickland is definitely on the right track with his commericial.... |
|
and he needs to keep hitting the Kasich=Wall St. button; everyone I know loves that commercial. Wall St. is like a 4 letter word around here, so I say keep up the good work!
Hell, if I could go out tomorrow and vote for Strickland, I would do so in a heartbeat!

| 8. I haven't seen or heard the ad but I only watch KO & Rachel & listen to NPR |
|
It's good that it's a tough ad but Obama won w the youth vote in Ohio & many of them don't watch much TV, are more computer/social network orientated. Hopefully it will sway some republicans his direction. Do you know if it is airing on FOX affiliates? Might be a good placement for it. (or maybe since Kasich worked for FOX, they won't air it)

| 10. I have no clue if the ad is on Faux..... |
|
but I have seen it aired during Big Ed.
Maybe it's just airing in the Cleveland area? I don't watch much network TV, but the few things I watch, like AM local news and Jeopardy, it's airing a lot.
You are probably right about Faux not airing the ad, but it sure would be a good placement!
