State Supreme Court rules Bysiewicz not qualified to run for Attorney General

Today's 7-0 unanimous decision brings Susan Bysiewicz's run for Attorney General to an end.

The state Supreme Court on Tuesday unanimously reversed a lower court ruling that would have allowed Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz to run for state attorney general.

The ruling shockingly ends one of the most unusual chapters in Connecticut's political history. Bysiewicz had been one of the leading candidates for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination until January, when Attorney General Richard Blumenthal's decision to run for U.S. Senate prompted her to run for the office he was vacating.

Quite impressive resume. I can't see where she's had anything to do with the criminal justice system though.

4. Under CT law

a candidate for Atty General has to have been engaged in the active practice of law for 10 years.

Despite never trying a case in court (her words) and signing a declaration that she was not practicing law to avoid paying a minor fee ($100-$200?), her contention is that acting in the role of Sec of State constituted "active practice of law". The CT Supreme Court disagreed.

Since Dodd choose not to run for re-election, the various senior Democrats in CT are jockeying to move up the ladder.

3. She should have stuck to running for Governor.

She was a great candidate for that...AG never seemed to fit her. Oh well. Been a sucky last few days here for Dems in CT. :(
