Obama administration officials tell POLITICO’s “Morning Energy” they plan to get much tougher with BP this week. An EPA official: “EPA was not satisfied with the response it received from BP and has demanded several meetings with the company since then, including one where their scientists were instructed to brief EPA and other scientists from the federal government about some of what was included in their letter. It appears BP may be more interested in defending their initial decisions regarding dispersant use than in doing an honest assessment about the options available at this point.
“Administrator
Jackson decided, in part based on what she viewed as an insufficient BP response, to hold a Sunday evening meeting in the Gulf region with BP officials, as well as Admiral Landry, to make a determination on appropriate next steps. Those steps could include new direction to BP to provide additional analysis about the current dispersant being used or more information about BP's initial analysis regarding other possible alternatives.”
