| GREAT QUOTE from Jane Hamsher - for any progressive who missed it... |
|
In response to the "flushing down the toilet" comment from the WH:
"If their $8 million buys derivatives legislation and limits the damage that the Masters of the Universe can do to the world economy in the future, it's not only a bargain, it also means that a bunch of nurses and janitors have done more to rein in the banks than you and your entire pack of servile, vision-less Wall Street lackeys have done since you took office."
(From Sam Stein's piece "Progressive Kingmakers Take A Hit In Arkansas" - read on my Kindle.)
I know this will get a lot of unrecs but I think it's a great quote that other progressives might appreciate.

|
If it forces the candidate left, that's a good outcome.
Whether it was worth $8 million in this case remains to be seen.

|

that will limit "the damage that the Masters of the Universe can do to the world economy in the future" if it remains in the bill?
If so, cool. There's the admission that the current Senate proposal will in Hamsher's view "rein in the banks."

|
...it's merely the viewpoint that it's a better bill than it would have been if Lincoln wasn't pressured from her left flank, provided that provision remains in the bill.
'Better than it might have been' does not equate to 'sufficient to the task.'

Sorry, I'm 58, and just love the smell and the reading of newspapers. Dinosaur, I know.
The way the book is laid out, the flow, bookmarks, cracking the binding, without jeopardizing the book integrity, a lost art.
Enjoy your electronic books, reading in any form is great.
But you will never have the smell of a library.
Puts you in the mood,

Wake up, open the front door, smell summer, get the "sea legs" under you. gaze at how great the basil, zucchini, cukes, tomatoes are doing. Take my hands briskly rub my bed-head into a form that is not just waking up. bend low at the waist, forward fold, pick up the paper. Yogic news. Get my first cup of coffee, sit and read until my ancient eyes are able to focus on better things, such as my delightful wife.
Well, winter is another story, but just as great, but a little chillier.

I have no beef with Hamsher. She's made some PR mistakes to be sure, but she's been a staunch progressive ever since the dark days of 2000/2001.
I remember when FDL was fighting the good fight when only a HANDFUL of progressssive sites were in existence.
AND it's a damn good quote.

The progressive infrastructure may still need to prove its electoral abilities, but the primary challenge itself pushed Lincoln to write a tough derivatives regulation provision that has Wall Street even more frightened. That's the admission.
