| What if Obama was evaluated like teachers are under Race To The Top/No Child Left Behind? |
|
Balance the budget, while meeting the needs of all people. No excuses about the budget has to cover interest payments for debts incurred by previous administrations, no excuses about how that's out of your control.
No Citizen Left Behind. Someone unable to pay their bills because they can't find a job? Perhaps they are ill and can't work. Perhaps they are just lazy and won't work. Perhaps the world economy took a dive. Too bad - it's YOUR job to ensure that 95% of your citizens are above the poverty level and have a place to live. Don't give us shit about extenuating circumstances that you can't control.
Win the war in Afghanistan and Iraq, and pull out. We don't want to hear excuses about how the citizens in those countries aren't in a position to provide their own security, or how the taliban is still posing a threat after 6 years. We expect you to make Adequate Yearly Progress.
-------- What would it look like if the president rated his own performance by similar standards that he wants teachers held to?

All kids would have to be A students in a year or the teachers would be fired.

| 14. Nonteachers would get to criticize and complain on a daily basis |
|
Every time a kid failed a quiz, there would be several articles written about how it was Obama's fault and what he should have done to make sure that student didn't fail that quiz. And the rest of the class that passed the quiz would have been ignored.

Not about how well he measures up against goals HE had the liberty of setting for HIMSELF, based on his own assessments of what he can accomplish.
I'm asking ... what if he was given certain "reasonable" criteria for ensuring no US citizen was "left behind" - in the same way that teachers are given a national standard that every child is supposed to meet. And then when he didn't meet that goal (because nobody can singlehandedly "fix" the economy in that way), how would he be rated? What if there were no excuses that he inherited a bad economy? You know how teachers aren't allowed to use the "excuse" that their success rate is influenced by the communities they work in, whether or not the children enter their school reading above, at or below grade level even before a teacher gets them? Under NCLB, teachers aren't allowed to put any blame on circumstances they can't control, or past successes or failures of their students. They aren't allowed to assess progress toward a goal or take into account how far away from the goal they started, the criteria is only if a goal is or is not met.
What if Obama's criteria was based solely on where we should be as a nation, regardless of where we are coming from or what past administrations have done?

60 dumbass majority in the senate but spent his time trying to coax repubs over by compromising it into a crap fest, he would be on needs improvement by me.
AFSCME sent me this: When will reform happen: 2010: insurers can't drop you, children under 19 with pre-existing conditions stay on and can until 26 for all others, no more lifetime coverage limits, you get $250 to offset the donut hole in Medicare, which can set you back $2500 bucks. :(
2011: 50% discount on brandname drugs for medicare donut hole folx, adds new coverage for annual checkups and elems co-pay for some stuff
2013: Medicare gradually closes donut hole prescription coverage hole OVER SEVEN YEARS!!!!!
2014: Everyone must have health insurance or they will bite your ass with a tax penalty. if you can't afford it, they will help with subsidies but how much can that help when you work two-three minimum wage jobs!!?!?!?!? No more annual coverage limits (three years after bill!) medicaid becomes available to more seniors (those who didn't die waiting) penalties to employers who don't offer health insurance, state run buying pools are established and MEMBERS OF CONGRESS begin receiving coverage through the exchanges.
2017: (SEVEN YEAR FROM NOW!) states can open competitive exchanges to large employers. (Seven years of companies ripping us to shreds and they allow this)
2018: excise tax is imposed on certain costly health care plans (Unions get screwed)
2020: Medicare donut hole is closed. TWENTY FUCKING YEARS LATER, THEY CLOSE IT!!!!!
Tell me again how he gets an A.
