to discriminate against people. Nebraska passed a similar laws (these targeting employers and rental people) getting ready to go into effect..and yes legal residents and citizens of the United States are being targeted and threatened.

1. It's about the political shift

The Republicans know that the Hispanic vote can break them in many places and they have to neutralize that in order to cling to power. I fully expect them to go to polling places and attempt to use the law to challenge any Hispanic person who shows up to vote.

2. I'm sure that's true, but what bothers me more than that is

that this whole thing is a political ploy, at least it is in AZ, to get elected! I was listening to the radio last night and they were talkingabout what's real in AZ V/s what's being promoted. Illegal crossings are way down from last year & even previous years. When the AZ police & the corinors were contacted about "beheadings" they said they have seen NONE! Bottom line is if you are not messing in the drug business, AZ isa vey safe place to live. The Dear Governor is pushing all this BS to gt lelected, and a lot of other states have jumped on her wagon.

3. I think that is what is happening in Fremont also..

We have a huge Hispanic population in our area.. and Fremont is not that far down the road from where I live. This is all about politics and not about people. Twenty five years ago, when we first started getting large influxes of Hispanic citizens, you kind of heard things like this, but nothing happened,and it basically settled down, and the Hispanic community became a very vibrant part of our local communities.. starting businesses.. etc.. increasing our tax base.. this is totally a cutting off of the nose to spite the face scenario..

Mexico abuzz about SB 1070, braces for wave of deportees

Migrant shelters along the border say they're bracing for new arrivals after the law goes into effect on Thursday. The Mexican Consulate in Phoenix has added more workers to assist detained nationals. And migrants who have already been deported said they're watching carefully to see how the law is enforced before deciding whether to cross the border into Arizona again.

Arizona's SB 1070 makes it a state crime to be in the country illegally. It allows local police, during a lawful stop, to check a person's immigration status if they have reasonable cause to suspect he or she is in the country illegally. Citizens also can sue their police departments if they feel the new law is not being enforced.

We have a 6.8 percent unemployment rate in Iowa.. compared to the rest of the country that is very good.. and a surprising amount of private employment and tax revenue includes our hispanic communities.

7. When will local towns learn that antiimmigrant bills only bring ruin

There's been dozens of local towns that passed tough antimmigrant laws, just about all of them have had some or all of the following happen to them after passing the bill.

1) Numerous outside groups will sue the local government, requiring the local township to hire expensive lawyers to fight expensive legal battles that the township probably doesn't stand a good chance at winning.

2) Lots of Hispanics, and other groups viewed as 'foreign' in the area, both illegal AND legal immigrants, will take their money and move elsewhere, and never return.

3) Because of so many residents moving out, businesses that depended on those residents as customers will go out of business. Businesses may also be hurt from out of towners who think they're being targeted by the local township's law avoiding doing business in the town as well.

4) Because of the combination of people leaving, and businesses going out of business, the local township's tax revenue will plummet, and then all the expensive legal battles the township is being forced to fight to defend the law will only make their money problems even worse.

5) Seeing just how badly the incumbents have screwed the local economy, and how much they'll be forced to raise taxes to pay for the expensive legal bills, voters will kick them out of office.

"brown people" is the mini series V, from 1983. I remember Daniel & his Jewish grandparents watching him with growing alarm, watching neighbor turn against neighbor. First AZ, now Nebraska.
