That noise you hear is CNN and the other RWers heads exploding, who think bloggers are cowards...Poor souls....Hahahaha. Go Rachel!

What do you hear the most of out of the Clinton presidency? DADT, NAFTA, DOMA, and the surplus. Strangely, the only thing that we still have are the stuff we're trying to get rid of. I suspect in 10 years we'll be taking about how health care is unaffordable, and how we don't wanna get bogged down in "another Afghanistan". It will be interesting to see if we're still having to talk about "what to do with those prisoners in Illinois".

which Clinton gets little credit for, probably because it didn't cost as much in lives and money as Iraq and Afghanistan.
Still too soon to know what Obama's presidency will be remembered for, but hope I'm around to read about it as history.

There are many things for which Clinton could get "credit", but they generally don't last long after you're gone. Truth is, most presidents that do get fondly remembered, are often remembered for things they didn't really do. Reagan wasn't much of a conservative, and never even proposed a balanced budget. His government was bigger when he left that when he arrived. But he's remembered as a small government conservative.
Kennedy is seen as some champion of civil rights, but he dragged his feet on civil rights. Those inside the movement don't remember him particularly fondly. LBJ was the real deal to them, and maybe Bobby.

Most memories of the Reagan years are pure fantasy and don't resemble the time or president I remember at all. LBJ gets little credit for civil rights or his war on poverty because of Vietnam, and Kennedy received far more credit than he deserved because of his tragic, untimely death.

| 24. Using her is the right choice of words |
|
Because he does not believe Rachel should have rights equal to his own. She supports him, but the favor is not returned in kind. That is in fact 'using' her as opposed to working with her, or supporting her goals. It is just ironic that the one person who is speaking words you like to hear is subjected to discriminatory laws that are favored by the President, who holds that marriage is only to be practiced according to his chosen dogmas and opinions based not on reality, but upon things unseen and unprovable, the very opposite of the vaunted Pragmatic thinking. So there you go. Revel in the irony that those with full rights who oppose equality for Rachel, need to 'use' her to make their own points. This makes it difficult, pragmatically, to state that Rachel is lesser than anyone, don't you think? I mean, how can her opinion matter if she is not even worthy of having equal protection under the law? I guess the President thinks she's right about everything but wrong about who she loves. So he will still use her, while opposing her equal standing. It is what it is kids. Apparently, he needs teh gay. I note that this information does not come from McClurkin, Warren, the 'faith community' nor from the Obamacans. It comes from teh gay. And yet teh gay keep being told that we are not supportive enough. Except when we get 'used' to make a point others were unable to make on their own straight path, for some straight reason.

| 31. Thanks for the snark! |
|
Of course, I had not a word to say about what Rachel knows, which is more than I do about her position, just as I know more about mine. Her job and mine are not the same, complimentary, but different. She does as she does, so that others can do as we do. The snark just highlights the lack of ability to see the stark irony of being eloquently defended by a person you say is not worthy of equal rights in a basic way, a person you say God thinks of as less than other people. That is ironic. It is in fact, pitiful, telling, and exactly why Rachel is a brilliant advocate for not just the gay community, but for liberals of all kinds. Rachel does not need to point out the irony, she is providing the irony. She is putting a personal face on the vast political debt owed in this area. He is against her equal rights, yet he needs to make use of her mind for his advantage. This is ironic, unfortunately. And hopefully, just for the time being. The second act is not the end, so don't stress about it too much. There is activism going on, that's all. You'll be fine and the President will be finer.

|
He has extended unlimited Executive Branch authority, institutionalizing the Bush administration abuses we all decried.
He has ordered the assassination, and of an American citizen. Worse than summary execution.
He has failed to close Guantanamo and, in fact, runs even worse prisons in Afghanistan, like Bagram.
He has extended the secret government, extended warrantless wiretapping of US citizens.
He has refused to prosecute Bush administration criminals. . .
I'm sorry, until he does something to reverse these, I can't see the guy as anything but somewhat better than pure evil. which would be Bush and the Republicans, which would mean he'd still kind of have my vote, but don't expect me to be enthusiastic about it. It's enough to depress me . . . on election day . . . when I might not vote.

That he immediately joined Bush in trouncing into the dust, and hasn't changed his pace since!
It doesn't require a magic wand or any kind of magic, either. To drop court cases or change the executive's position on them? It required only a certain lack of cynicism.
It may be argued that it's not really Obama, but unseen powers behind him that are doing this. That doesn't explain his vote on removing FISA restrictions in the senate when he was a candidate. He was at least sending a signal to those powers that he was willing to go along with them.
And besides, if he is helpless against unseen powers behind the presidency, then he's figurehead. And a rather compliant one. Why should I vote either way on that?

|
Demanding that the executive branch stop spying on us is worthy of derision? If that's what you now believe, I could just say yes, this guy has really brought back hope for people. No, he hasn't. Instead he's made his followers, like yourself, cynical enough to accept him. That's not hope. That's not "yes we can" that's "no we won't, and you'll praise me for it."
I'm just asking for the rather boilerplate human rights. The baseline stuff that ten years ago we took for granted. You can't say it's removal is too entrenched and institutionalized because we had it just 10 years ago. Also, he didn't have to do much to correct it-- like drop court cases.
