| We Need To Stop Spinning Ourselves-That's Part Of The Reason We Were Massacred |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-03-10 04:35 AM by DemocratSinceBirth
I can't believe I am reading posts that this wasn't such a bad night for Democrats. We lost at least sixty House seats, six senate seats, nine governor seats, and ten state legislatures. It was the worst night for my party since WW ll.
Saying this was a run of the mill defeat is like saying Little Big Horn was a run of the mill defeat for the Seventh Calvary.

Republicans were allowed to control the message. Somehow everything that happened on Mr. Bush's term became the fault of the Democrats and it was conveniently ignored until it was too late to right the record.

But it doesn't the obviate the fact we were massacred last night and suggesting we weren't as some DUERS have only ensures it will happen again.

All statewide races in Ohio were lost -- just insane! Even that puke Mike Dewhine got elected as AG. It's a sad day for me, but this too shall pass. It seems like the bombastic behavior on the right, the bad economy, the constant media hype, and the inability to control the narative done us in this time.
I'm still standing though, and I don't care if I'm the only Democrat left in my district I'm still going to fight for progress in the face of fear, hate, and ignorance. This only motivates me to become more active and fight harder because in 2012 if we don't stick together things will get a lot worse.
I'm doing this for my mom who has a mental disability who needed assistance from he government for us to survive. I'm doing this for my grandpa who worked on the railroads, a man that knew and appreciated organized labor. I'm doing this for my gay roomate because I'm tired of him being seen as a second class citizen in this country.
Obama has been lukewarm so far, but dammit I refuse to accept the republican prophecy of victory in 2012, especially when my vote counts just as much as their's! I'm still fired up!

And almost brought a tear to my eye. It reminded me of why I am a Democrat.
The sad thing our fate as a party and individuals is inextricably linked to the fate of the economy and I'm not convinced it's about to improve any time soon.

And for the sake of our nation and all of its people I hope the economy starts to show signs of life.
Thanks for the kind words. :)
