The vast majority of Democrats who voted with the GOP were centrist Blue Dog Democrats, many of whom were defeated on Election Day.

If you remember Rahm and Dean fought over where to put the money. Rahm as head of the trip C blew his lot on Blue Dogs and where he could, he used that money like in Ill. and Fla. to knock out progressives with a real shot in favor of unknowns he did so.D
And Dr. Dean hasn't put our party in the disarray it's currently in, the responsibility for that lies clearly with the WH leadership.

Frankly, I appreciate it when people name names -- there are lessons to be learned everytime a DINO is esposed...by their voting record. Last time I checked, votes count whether it precedes an election by one, two, or four years. Many of these people will run again -- hoping that their votes are no more important than listings in a phonebook. Accountability is worth preserving.

They were disproportionately defeated in November, from 54 to 26 including retirements. At one point almost one out of four "Democrats" was a closet Republican. Come January, it will be around 12%. I would imagine that most of those turncoat votes were from this group of 54. This time next year, a list such as this should be half as large or less.

The Democrats who return in January will be necessarily leaner, but also a lot meaner, thanks to the loss of these 26 pushover Dems. They'll make for formidable representation on committees and any Republican-crafted legislation will be stalked by (Democratic Senate) shadow-amendments waiting to be quietly inserted in conference. The Senate Democrats will likely be providing a lot of Democratic direction in the House, informally, and that could work out well in the long run.

Seriously, if one has to accept a defeat, as we must, then the focusing of the damage on the least reliable members of the party is one helluva consolation prize. It's a loss for us, but it also represents the loss of a powerful and highly useful fifth column which the Republicans successfully used against us for years.

The next step, of course, is to insert real Democrats into the primaries in those districts come 2012, so that these former blue dogs cannot siphon away Democratic funding by trying to return to their traitorous ways. They need to be boxed out for good. Maybe they'll finally jump the fence and add some much-needed moderation to their true party of choice.
