Democrat: Obama says presidency at risk if deal fails

A veteran House Democrat said Wednesday that President Barack Obama is trying to drum up support for his tax cut package by warning lawmakers that failing to pass the deal would be "the end of his presidency."

Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.) said the White House is putting a full-court press on Democratic lawmakers, who last week cast a non-binding caucus vote to oppose the legislation that would temporarily extend the Bush Era tax cuts, including breaks to the wealthiest Americans.

"The White House is putting on tremendous pressure,” DeFazio said on CNN’s “Parker-Spitzer.” “The president is making phone calls saying this is the end of his presidency if he doesn't get this bad deal.

32. Peter DeFazio is my Rep and one of the best in the House

Not only did he just win reelection, when so many conservadems lost, he did so while facing endless money being pumped to his insane Tea Bagger opponent. So DeFazio+Politics= A Democrat in the House when so many got sent home.
Additionally, Peter was a very early and vocal supporter of candidate Obama during our Primary, months before the vote, when the vast majority of this district was not yet decided. Some took issue with his early endorsement, in fact. So DeFazio + Politics = a big helping hand for a fairly unknown Senator. Big helping hand.
In return for that support, Obama has publicly chided Peter more than once, often on the same day that he praises Grassely or some other Republican. The Democrats of the 4th in Oregon notice that. We trust DeFazio far more than we do Obama. We know Peter.
During the health care reform Town Hall season, DeFazio's office was shot at several times by others who are not fond of him, so you are not alone.

According to CNN, DeFazio didn't even speak to the President himself. He heard this from other lawmakers who shall not be named. In fact, he said he talked to one person who made this claim.

33. The President has practiced crappy politics toward Democrats

since the day he won the election. He has carried himself as if he needs nothing from anyone, and also as if everyone seeks to serve Obama, not their districts or principles. The untold number of Democrats, from elected officials to volunteers to important cultural endorsers who worked to put Obama in office have for the most part gotten the cold shoulder since he took office, and there are chapped hides all over America. I personally do not like the way Obama has treated my elected Democrats, I take note, and I have seen much disrespect, and no sense of thanks, no Party feeling that we did this, on election day the 'we' became 'he' and it seems the man Barack forgot what was done for him, by whom, and especially why. He thinks we just love him, so we voted him in.
I voted for Obama in the end because of endorsements from DeFazio and Abercrombie. Not because of the speeches or the 'just like Clinton' policies.
