Poll: Obama would beat Dean in NH Primary 78-10.

Despite the recent chatter that Obama could face a primary challenge in 2012, a new poll of New Hampshire Democrats finds that those concerns are probably overblown.

The poll, conducted by Magellan Data and Mapping Strategies, matched Obama against three Democrats - Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT.) None of the races were even close.

Fifty-nine percent of respondents said they would vote for Obama if Clinton were to challenge him, while just 28% said they'd support Clinton. Against Dean, Obama held a staggering 68% lead, with 78% of respondents supporting him in that scenario versus 10% who supported Dean. With Sanders as a challenger, the gap was even larger, with Obama on top 79% to 8%.

it didn't work for ted kennedy (who would have made a great president) and it won't work for any dem in 2012.

the left needs to take a look at reality and stop claiming that Obama is just like the right. He isn't. Just because he tries to compromise in order to move forward, it doesn't mean he's abandoned ANYTHING. He's been the best President of my life time and he has my FULL support in 2012. I will work twice as hard for him since I know far left will be working against him through 3rd party or a far left leaning dem challenger.

7. Magellan polled a bunch of races in 2010..

...IL senate, CO governor. LA senate, OR governor, CA governor, PA Senate, AZ governor...

Sample sizes in the ~1000 range for many. Standard auto-dial polls by the looks of things.

Don't know why they're particularly likely to be bogus.

next primary season.

Think back to 1991 and how invincible George HW Bush seemed. He'd just presided over a very popular (gag) war in the Middle East. It was obvious to everyone that he was going to be re-elected by a landslide, and so no sensible Democrat bothered to run against him. Remember his second term? Come on now, think hard. Surely he had a second term.

My point is that all of these people who run polls like this or speculate about who the Republican nominee will be two years from now are completely full of it, because who knows what will happen between now and primary season, let alone between now and election day 2012.
