| I'm so proud that my country buried bin Laden with dignity |
|
Edited on Mon May-02-11 12:44 PM by Empowerer
No matter how despicable this individual may be, we did not desecrate his body, spit on his religion or debase our values.
Our refusal to behave like savages toward one who so savagely treated us speaks far more eloquently about America than millions of speeches about "American exceptionalism" ever could.
I am very proud of my President and my country right now.

We're not animals, nor is our President. Unlike what some people may think, even Americans. This is was the right thing to do. We took him out, and did the respectful thing. End of story.

I was relieved when I read the account of the burial. I was dreading I might hear something else. Ten years ago I don't think I'd have had that fear.

|
The celebrations of the death could have been a little less wild -- but the body kept for use against the naysayers.

to more than 1 billion people in the world, who don't care much for OBL, but do respect tradition.
Naysayers are like teabaggers anyway - nothing you could do would be sufficient, and even if they found it sufficient rather than admit so they'd just be off to the next case.

anybody who has stated they wish to be buried at sea gets flushed down a a toilet?
That said, it honestly wouldn't have bothered me a bit if that was they had done to that vermin. We treated him better than he deserved.

As tempting as it may be to treat OBL's body with everything he deserved, it serves no one to stoop to that level.

If we ask ourselves what kind of people do we want to be? And, Personally, I think this is an important question for individuals and for us as a country. The burial at sea within 24 hours so as to demonstrate good-will toward others and respect for their beliefs was an excellent decision. I am proud that this was how our Government handled this issue. I think they took the high road. I think they demonstrated the "golden rule" along with strength of character, moral fiber, and a spiritual depth. I value all of these things very much.
It's sad that Americans are so jaded that they need photos and/or a body; it's gruesome and shows how desensitized we've become to death not to mention our lack of respect for the dead. IMO

He's lucky he got a decent burial, and had the words of his religion said over his corpse.
Not a valiant foe to be respected, just another stiff given a modest send-off.
