Can we put this one to rest? Social Security hurts younger families

You are beginning to hear it from the right, that seniors are taking money from younger families. yadda yadda yadda.

Can we get a heads up on this for younger families of working class and middle class which is by far the majority of us.

If we did not have Soc. Security and Medicare.. all of that expense would come back on families just starting out or trying to launch kids into college and it would bankrupt them as they tried to provide for elderly parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.

So unless we want to take the Kurt Vonnegut solution in death parlors.. the best thing we have going for everyone is Social Security.

It also helps buisness by having that money pumped into the economy that creates jobs.. etc etc etc

The republicans are clueless on economic matters.

Social Security and Medicare allow families to take care of their elderly parents while raising a family of their own at the same time. Without them, millions of families would be ruined financially.

2. Yep.. and we need to push back on not only Ryan but the other

republicans and teetering democrats on this. If it had not been for medicare for my father in law.. My husband and I would not have been able to make it.. because the costs were so high in his final years.

But not much. Because not everyone has the means to pay them back. That is the point.

5. The problem is the young have never lived during a time when there was no Social

Security so most of them have no ideal how life was before SS. Same with Welfare, they never experienced having a mentally disabled family member who had 16 children 14 that made it past 6 months, and saw those children passed around the family because the disabled mom could get enough charity to take care of all of her children. It was the same with grand parents only that was during a time when there still were family farms as a majority, so the children took care of their parents. Those that had no children were SOL and unless they had a nest egg they lived as bums until death found them.

We just do not realize as a country how bad it would be without Soc Sec. on everyone..not just the elderly..

if we lose Social Security as it is, it will hurt you as much as everyone else unless you are so independently wealthy you can join that upper 1%..You might want to rethink your politics

9. How about all those younger families who are able to do more

for their immediate family, because their parents
are made self-sufficient by SS.

No one ever points out the humongous cost the younger
families would be saddled with, if it were not for
the SS check their parents receive. They would have
all their parents bills plus their own.

Just as Medicaid keeps middle class families afloat by helping with long term care for their elderly parents.

With the parents of those kids having Social Security as their sole income or being supplemented with pension or other income they don't become a burden on their children. If they were a burden on their children how much of their income would be used to support their parents??

15. As a young person, I think Social Security is a fucking bargain

A small amount out of my paycheck each month to guarantee that I won't starve in my old age. I'll totally take it.

16. Social Security also provides Disability benefits....

If you can't work until retirement. And to children of retirees if the chilld was disabled before reaching age 18.
