What would Shrub have done? He would have invoked the 14th amendment and told everyone to go fuck themselves. And he would have done it weeks ago. The POTUS is reaching the point that he might consider emulating Bush in a way that does not involve war. I say stop with the reaching across the aisle, stop with the kumbayah, shock the hell out of them and play nasty.

chess to get the most he can for working people. I think Obama has been playing a good game of chess, considering what he has been handed.

3. If he invokes the 14th, the bills are paid and nothing more.

The House can't take anything away from working people as long as the Senate is there to stop them and Obama has a veto pen. We're at the point where it might be most beneficial to tread water until the next election and work like hell to get a supermajority in the House and Senate to restore some semblance of sanity.

It would be fantastic if he did, but I don't think he has it in him. He's too nice of a guy and he hates confrontation. He prefers reaching across the aisle an compromise.

So Obama should act like Bush when you say so? It's unlikely that you even knew what the 14th Amendment was until a few days ago. Careful what you wish for. :eyes:

10. How can following the Constitution be such an evil thing?

How can paying our bills be an evil thing? Obama is in a unique situation because he's got a loony bin full of crazies in the House. The choice is go big or go over the cliff. I'll ignore the shot about not knowing the 14th amendment . . . I did. And if the House decides to impeach Obama for following the Constitution (and I would almost expect it), that would be the guarantee of another term for him.

Obama is a president, not a dictator.
I'm not happy with presidents who play otherwise.

11. Foolish, foolish remark with absolutely no comparison.

Obama is in a bizarre situation and is just about the only adult in the room. I just read the House and Senate are cooking up some new "super Congress" plan - almost like a new legislative body which would be the "gang of six" on steroids. They would come up with legislation and the House and Senate would have to rubber stamp it. Kiss Social Security and Medicare goodbye.

...now we're cheering Bush?
I thought the meme was at least Bush reached out to Congress ("across the aisle") to start his illegal war in Iraq?
I miss Bush, I wish Obama were more like him!
