| POLL: Democratic Base Solidly Behind Obama |
|
Democratic Base Solidly Behind Obama A new CNN/Opinion Research poll finds President Obama's base is behind him with 70% of Democrats saying they'd like to see Obama as their party's presidential nominee next year. Notes pollster Keating Holland: "In 1994, only 57% of Democrats wanted the party to renominate Bill Clinton, and he went on to win the nomination and a second term two years later." http://politicalwire.com/archives/2011/08/14/democratic_base_solidly_behind_obama.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+PoliticalWire+%28Political+Wire%29

| 3. I really don't get why the media is pushing the "liberals are abandoning Obama" meme. |
|
If they said he's losing conservative Democrats or independents, that would be backed up by reality (especially Conservadems, independent approval rating has been low for a while now). But, Gallup has Obama's approval rating among liberal Democrats at 83%, Democrats overall at 78%, and liberals overall at 70%.
His liberal base is sticking with him. The key is getting moderates and independents back on his side (not that they're with the GOP). If he campaigns well and lets people know exactly what the GOP is doing, there's no doubt they will come back, especially if he's facing a Bachmannesque candidate.

| 7. They're driving the negativity narrative to discourage Dems. |
|
Look how well it works around here. "We're doomed!" has been posted more than once.
They want to sell the message that the President is weak, that he's in trouble, that it's time for the GOP to take over.
Some corners of the Left are helping out with the first two of those. The third, if the MSM keeps pushing the lie over and over, could come about - or so the GOP backers hope.

most independents are not crazies and they may come back after the R nominee is chosen. Unless it is Romney who is only a make believe crazy ans may moderate some of his positions if he end up being the nominee (long practice at flip flopping may help).

| 28. I agree - if the GOP nominates Romney or Huntsman, he's in trouble |
|
I don't think independents are going to be nearly as enthusiastic about Bachmann, Perry or Palin.
OTOH, if Ron Paul somehow got the nomination, I have no idea what would happen.

2. Supporting extending free trade without needed reforms and protections. 3. Continuing two wars and starting a third. 4. Spending money we don't have and refusing to fight for revenue. 5. Dragging his heels on DOMA and DADT so much so that the court had to tell them to get their asses in gear. 6. Chastising liberals for wanting the change we voted for. 7. Appeasing Republicans and giving up Elizabeth Warren without a fight. 8. Giving Republicans exactly what they wanted on the debt ceiling limit. 9. Trading the slashing of SS and Medicare/Medicaid for a shell game. 10. Accepting and extending the tax cuts for the wealthy without argument. 11. Guantanamo Bay is still open. 12. Treasury Secretary Geitner and Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke, and countless other REPUBLICANS appointed to positions of power by the administrations. 13. Extending the PATRIOT ACT. 14. Arne Duncan 15. Rahm Emanuel 16. ZERO prosecutions of Bush Administration law breakers.
And don't make that BS claim that Congress did these things. The point is he didn't EVEN fight. He gave in on EVERYTHING IMMEDIATELY WITHOUT CONFRONTATION.
I repeat: Obama has too.

|
I know so many people who are pissed off at the government, and Obama gets more blame than maybe he should, but he is top dog. I don't see that high of an approval rating. Could it be that those who support Obama are being lured into a false sense of security? Maybe he is in more trouble than the polls really show. Who can you really believe?

We couldn't possible lose that much... right? We tend to only believe that which furthers our arguments. All of us. All other polls saying otherwise are false or fake.
