There are exceptions, of course. But, the vast majority are more concerned about elections than getting things done for the greater good.

I think that both parties have pretty much accepted the idea of a two tier economy - one for the rich and one for the poor. there doesn't seem to be any desire for government to be involved in legislating anything that would provide an equitable distribution of wealth.
