basically Cantor is the representative of the burbs west of Richmond and the economic powers of Richmond. He was a loyal staff member of Tom Bliley's and was selected (as often happens in both parties) to follow Bliley. Universal Leaf was okay with it, Phillip Morris was okay with it, Reynolds was okay with it, etc.

His district encompasses parts of Richmond dipping down into RED Chesterfield and then accumulates the required number of citizens in the sparsely inhabited area heading towards Charlottesville - but no into C'ville because that is as BLUE as it gets in Virginia.

My podiatrist told me that he thought about running in 2008 but didn't- he said (and think he is well connected) that 2008 was the only shot we would ever have of getting Cantor out. Local radio hates him but they and the TeaBaggers fall in line when it counts.
