“For 10 years I have been the commander in chief of over 20,000-plus” people,” (said Perry in reference to the Texas National Guard).
“If there is someone on this stage who has had that hands-on commander in chief experience it is me, as the governor of the state of Texas,”

Since the war in Afghanistan started, the pentagon has exercised complete control over the Guard, as I understand it.

George Bush:
