A request for a posting rule in the Guns forum.

I would like to request a rule change or addition to the Guns forum.

Many people have taken to posting news stories about firearms being used, both criminally and lawfully, without providing any commentary.

I submit that this serves no purpose in a debate forum. All it does is provide a single anecdotal example of an event that we all know happens. Anecdotes provide no basis for statistical trends.

I propose that if a firearm-related current event is posted in the Guns forum, then the poster must provide some commentary as to what they think the story shows with respect to firearm policy.

If the intent is simply to post latest-breaking news, there is a separate forum for that.

My suggestion is that you take advantage of the "Hide thread" and "Ignore" features we provide.
