They connected Bin Laden to 9/11 even though there was no evidence. BushCo was bound and determined to get their war on. Also remember, the Taliban had been meeting with BushCo. in Texas just prior to the whole thing. There is so much more to our involvment in Afghanistan that "9/11".
Google "Taliban", "carpet of gold", and "Texas".
