The two leaders, who spearheaded the international operations that saw troops enter Afghanistan in 2001 in order to trace the al-Qaeda mastermind, expressed their satisfaction with the outcome of the latest US attempts to bring Bin Laden to justice.
In a statement, Bush, who left office in 2009, said that the news was a 'momentous achievement'.
'The fight against terror goes on, but tonight America has sent an unmistakable message: No matter how long it takes, justice will be done,' he added.
Meanwhile, former UK prime minister Tony Blair expressed his 'heartfelt gratitude' towards President Obama and the military personnel involved in the operation.
