| The raid to get bin Laden .... my short rant |
|
Edited on Wed May-04-11 05:36 PM by Botany
1. Why are people talking about the computer data that we recovered @ the scene? I don't need to know about that stuff and neither does anybody else outside of the intel and defense communities. That information should be kept quite and used to track down and get after the bad guys.
b. It was bloody and the other side didn't have a chance to get to their weapons. As far as I am concerned that is a good thing and if you don't know that living in a house w/ Osama bin Laden is a risk to your health then so be it. Call me a redneck or whatever but I want the other side to die before any American dies.
iii) Do not tell me that our good friends the Pakistanis did not know that OBL was living in Abbottabad. Wanna help the budget problems? ..... Not one more nickel in US $ to Pakistan.

| 1. We probably would never have got him without the Paks. |
|
He was probably in what amounts to custody there.

| 6. There's no way he'd even be there without some kind of program in place. |
|
It's like someone living in the parking lot at Langley. It's not gonna happen.

| 3. 1 - Agreed. Let's hope it saves some lives |

I mean, sure, I would love to see that data - but I understand I do not have a 'need to know' which is how it is most likely disseminated. Keep in mind also that I am all for the Wikileaks releases. Embassy cables DO NOT discuss anything that is classified. They do, however, discuss their day to day operations, which SHOULD be public.
b - Yes. Next?
iii) The Pakistani government, the ISI and what not are only our friends as far as we can help them. Past that, we are the infidels who protect Israel. Fuck 'em.
BTW - wasn't there a fragment of a story where there was a Pakistani official present during the Bin Laden kill? Or was that incorrect?

| 5. I agree on the first two points and I'd love to cut them off. |
|
Maybe there is hope that some people in the Pakistani govt will be helpful.

| 7. All those innocent, unknowing people who died in the explosions & collapse of the Twin Towers |
|
& died on the hijacked airplanes on 9/11 didn't have any defense mechanisms when they were ambushed.
I've thought about the past few days, going back & forth, & I'm satisfied that killing bin Laden was the right thing to do. Every time I read the phrase "he was unarmed", it's been rubbing me the wrong way. He earned it & deserved it.
