| Sick of the BS tit for tats btwn state House and Senate! Does anybody have a unicameral legislature? |
|
Why the hell should we continue with a system that waters everything down every time? We start out with filet mignon and end up with 50% fat hamburger, half mystery meat, every damn session.
Anybody chuck their bicameral legislature? I'm sure there would be unintended consequences but right now it looks pretty damned good.

| 1. Nebraska has one. Not sure if it works any better, though. |
|
Maybe someone from there has some more info.

But the bicameral legislature is part of the checks and balances, can you imagine if the US had a unicameral legislature and the Republicans has the majority now with Obama as president? WE WOULD BE FUCKED 100% AND HARD!

going through the system. Of course theres always the crap the repukes create but it never passes. Lately we've abolished the death penalty, get civil unions, which is probably the first step toward gay marriage, and there is talk of a one pay system. But we are also dealing with a huge budget deficit thanks to our former freaking Governor Blago and Quinn had to raise the income tax, but he also raised taxes on the Rich and on Corporations so its not all bad.

| 6. We got civil unions too! |

Such a kick in the ass! The Republicans used the threat of putting it on the ballot and bringing out their droves, and they mobbed the legislature last year in their red t shirts, bullying all the way.
But when the candidates for governor took positions, the people voted by a HUGE margin for the candidate who supported equal rights. The other guy got creamed...he lost by +20 points!
I wish we could approach single payer...

| 8. If the US Congress was anything like UK Parliament then yes... |
|
In UK, it is bicameral but if the majority government decides it so, they can execute the Parliament Act to override what the Lords say.
Imagine Mr. Boehner having something like the UK's Parliament Act available to him. It'd be between the Congressional House and the White House; the US Senate would just become a talking shop.
