I think he is referring to Assata Shakur. If Common is anything like me, he looked into the case and came to the same conclusion I did(except he may have wrote a song about it). That she was innocent(or reasonable doubt that she was guilty) and possibly under target from COINTELPRO

She was later busted out of prison (which her attorney thought was a bad idea) and currently living in Cuba in political asylum.

Now I can probably see why Fox News calls him a "thug rapper" when before I couldn't figure it out. He seemed like one of the least controversial rappers out there. However if that makes him a "thug" then I guess I am one too.
