Christian TV weatherman fired after protesting story on strip clubs

Jack Church insists he's not the type to wear his Christianity on his sleeve. He's never gone around "thumping Bibles in the newsroom," as he put it.

But the former TV weatherman had a choice to make last month. In his view, it came down to his job or his faith.

Church chose his faith, and now the former chief meteorologist at ABC affiliate KERO-TV Channel 23 is out of a job and being hailed in some Christian circles as a hero.

... At issue was an April 29 segment by KERO reporter Cris Ornelas called "Dancing Around the Economy." The story was about strip clubs doing well despite the economic downturn.

Let's see, that was '95 or '96 I don't even remember any more.

But I have news for Mr. Church - Deja Vu has been in business and successful in Bakersfield since around 1990 or so, maybe even longer.

It's not going anywhere.

7. What a dumbass, his segment had nothing to do with the story...

only that the weather aired during the same time slot. I'll bet he had no problem with the beer or other "worldly" commercials aired during his weather time slot.

10. Fair enough. It doesn't sound like he's trying to sue the station or claim discrimination,

so it was up to him to decide to skip work, and the station had the right to fire him.

Personally, if he's a good weatherman and this is the only issue, I'd have let him swap shifts if he wanted to. It's very trivial...
