| DUers who support voter ID, look to WI |
|
We are fighting a losing battle in WI. Our Repuke legislators are going to pass voter ID. They tried to get it through before all our recall elections come up but they couldn't get it done. However, it will go through after that. Voter ID works against the elderly, homeless, poor and students.
Currently one has to get to a Dept. of Motor Vehicle (DMV), with a birth certificate and $28 to get a picture ID. Many of our DMVs are difficult to get to and have very limited hours. Some will find it difficult to get a copy of their birth certificate and there may be a fee attached to that. College picture IDs do not meet the Repuke's requirements so these kids will have to get another picture ID. Absentee voters will have to get a copy of their picture ID to send along with their completed ballot. Again this requires a trip to a copy machine and another fee.
The Reupke's are doing this, among other things, to discourage voting. WI, and in fact the entire US, have had little or no voter fraud. So, the only reason for the big push for this is again, to discourage Democratic votes.

| 1. interesitngly enough, the roster books in wisconsin do NOT require voters' signatures. |
|
That would be the REAL way to check and see if it is the actual voters who are voting. As is, i guess any clerk can just check off the names they want to check off?

| 2. Voter ID requirements will be a boon for DMV and law enforcement though. |
|
All those extra people in the DMV system!
DUers who support voter ID are ignorant of our own history.

| 6. You'd be surprised at how many. Stay tuned; I'm fairly certain they |
|
will find their way here shortly.
The first time I encountered the support for voter suppression I was gobsmacked.

| 4. It amounts to a damned poll tax |
|
And poll taxes have already been deemed unconstitutional.
But I expect that thanks to our absurd chief justice that might be reversed. Thank you Blue Dogs for pushing John Roberts on us. You friggin weasels.

| 5. If you are a women you also need your marriage certificate |
|
to explain why your current name is different than your birth certificate..and if you were married in another state 20 years ago and divorced 15 years ago, it might be VERY DIFFICULT!
