in my email, from One Wisconsin Now (link requests $$)
Dear Scuba,
Writing this from outside the senate floor where Republican senators just shut down debate and voted to attackk voter rights. Sacred rights. Rights people fought and died for.
With utterly no justification, the Republicans just passed the most restrictive voter ID bill in the history of the United States.
Here’s our statement to the media:
“The history books will condemn the anti-American and unconstitutional action by Gov. Scott Walker and the Republican-controlled legislature to deny eligible voters their sacred right to vote. Ultimately, this will cost Wisconsin not only our fair and clean elections, but also millions of additional tax dollars when a court rules against them for damages for denying legal voters the right to vote.”
We need your help in this battle, and we need the resources to keep up the struggle. Can you say no to this assault on our rights, but supporting One Wisconsin Now’s Voter Rights Fund?
https://secure3.convio.net/pn/site/Donation2?df_id=3420&3420.donation=form1This is a new low. Even for Walker and crew. But we’re not going anywhere and we’re not going to stop fighting them every step of the way, but every means available.
You’ve been there for us, sending letters, signing petitions, using your voice in a united roar against the attacks on workers’ rights, education, health care and our seniors. We need you on this and we can’t let them get away with it.
This will be a long and costly battle. But price of silence is far greater.
When the vote was taken and we in the gallery rained down chants of “shame,” one of the members of the Wisconsin 14 mouthed “thank you” to all of us. We thank them, as well as the Democratic members of the state Assembly, who stood with us, fighting to protect our right to vote.
More to come…thanks for all you do.
