http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2011/0521/breaking16.htmlA bomb has exploded on a shopping street in the centre of Derry city this afternoon.
There were no reports of any injuries or damage. It is understood the device detonated outside a building society. The area had been evacuated after an alert began in the Diamond area of the city following a phonecall.
Sinn Féin Councillor Gerry MacLochlainn said the attack appeared to have targeted a building society.
“The attack on a building society will not affect the global financial institutions nor the constitutional position of the North of Ireland but will seriously jeopardise jobs in the local economy,” he added.
