| OhMyGod Road is still closed. |
|
OhMyGod Road, also known as Trail Ridge Road (Estes Park vicinity, Colorado), is the highest continuous highway in the country. With the approach of the Memorial Day holiday, the park service announced that the road will likely remain closed until at least the second week of June. The reason? Snow.
If you've ever been there and seen the views, you know why the road got its nickname.

I wanted to include pics, but my dialup is so slow right now that it just wasn't going to happen.
So, double thanks!

| 5. US 50 from Grand Junction to Pueblo |
|
Growing up in Oregon I thought one mountain road was just like another.
Then I took my big truck on Colorado US 50. God what a cool, cool cool road. I saw Elk, Mountain Goats, including a baby that was leaping up a rocky face that was near vertical.
This was before cell phone cameras, but I have it in my head.
If anyone has the chance...

Idaho Springs. Trail Ridge Road is a very pretty drive (though it's been a long time since I've been on it. The Virginia Canyon Road (pictured in post 2) is a bit of a hairy drive for the faint of heart--some sharp turns and some big drop offs on an occasionally very narrow road that drops about a thousand feet in the course of a few miles.
Sure are a lot of gorgeous drives in that part of the world :) :hi:
