| Which is a harder sell to the selfish: house in a small town or vote for a tiny, new political party? |
|
A small town usually has a greater risk of an economic downturn than a larger population center. Thus, there's a risk of needing to move to find work, and of being unable to rent or sell the house. It wouldn't help you to share that circumstance with others; you would be competing with them in the market to sell or rent out a house.
In contrast, it's unlikely that your vote will break a tie. It's even more unlikely that your vote will both break a tie, and bring into power a dangerous political party that somehow gives the impression, through the substance and style of its policy communications, that it is a reasonable party. If this very unlikely situation were to somehow arise, mass protests could remove a dangerous political party from power. Thus, it would help you to share that circumstance with others.
