5. What I rode my Bicycle to work today, it is warm outside

Last six hours shows a high of 16 and a low of 14 Fahrenheit, The National Weather Service is calling for a high of 20 today in my home town of Johnstown PA.

Yes, I did ride my bike to work. It is only 2.3 miles one way on a slight downhill grade. I was warm, in my Parka, thermal socks, finger trigger mittens (With wool insert AND thin winter gloves inserts), a Russian hat (Under my Helmet, I had to remove the fur up front to make it fit under the Helmet) and insulated overalls. The road was pack snow of about 1/2 inch thickness (it has snowed about 4-8 inches over the last few days, none of it has melted, but the cars going over the very cold snow we have been having has packed it down to about 1/2 on most road surfaces that have NOT been plowed. Plowed streets tend to be clear, where cars go, but snow cover on the edges where I bicycle.

No problem on the pack snow or ice (some problems on the semi-packed snow i.e. pack down but loose instead of pack down hard onto the road surface). Loose, unpacked snow is NOT a problem. So I bike (Did I tell you I have studded tires for the Bicycle?).

And, that it normally gets cold in December in the Northern Hemisphere? Also, please point out that it was nearly 70 in Denver the last couple of days.

I HAVE been hearing comments to this effect lately. Yeah, it's colder than normal here, too. But, sheesh. It's supposed to be cold this time of year.

This northern air flow has played havoc with south-central Ontario. They've had lake-effect snow coming south from Lake Huron and Georgian Bay for about 10 days now. Highway 402 between London and Sarnia has been closed for 2 days now, and will be closed for at least 2 more, as the Canadian military works to remove cars and 6 foot snow drifts from the highway. Motorist were evacuated from their vehicles and now have to play the "where did they take my car" game.

Watch this clip from his show 2 nights ago and notice his response to BecKKK's madness. His point that 2010 was the hottest year on record is valid but it should be followed up by pointing out that this is exactly what was predicted decades ago.

The University of Wisconsin has forecast that by the middle of this century the weather in southern WI will be like southern Iowa is now and by the end of the century it will be like Arkansas, but without the super hot summers.
