Why do Republicans pronounce it Noonited Snates of Numerica?

I first noticed this when Fred Thompson announced his run for the presidency a few years ago on one of the late night TV shows. At the time I wrote it off as Fred just being his drunk self.

But I have since noticed other Republicans do the same thing. Now I am beginning to think they are all mealy mouthed.

I think the first question at any further GOP debates needs to be "Pronounce the United States of America."

Republican may be found in all states and speak with every regional accent that may be found in the U.S. Attempting to claim one particular pronunciation as being common to all Republicans, or all Democrats either for that matter, is stereotyping.
