At least I'm not worrying about a lowered DOW or S&P's downgraded credit ratings. Gee, I guess living on Disability's fixed income is a vast improvement over losing a few million in investments. :sarcasm:

Well, I usually have to earn both of those but I get big returns on my investment.

| 11. Happiness isn't all dependent on how much money one has |
|
but eating well, having enough to pay the bills and rent (or mortgage), be prepared for emergencies and being able to get around are still very important. There's nothing like knowling that you're stuck within a city's boundaries and can't get out that makes it feel as though one were in prison without the possibility of "parole."

| 17. I'm sure there are some current songs |

that reflect that general sense of hopelessness, but the 60s thrived on the alternatives that brought us the counter culture. We certainly could use another revolution as we experienced then, but I don't see anything as comforting as it was then. In the end, the establishment finally won, and it makes it harder nowadays to find ways to rebel. I grew up in such days, even though it was the tail end of it, and have to admit I felt more a part of that world than I do in these terrible times.

| 18. It's definitely true for a lot of people |
|
But I think now people need to find ways to educate themselves about a lot more things. If there were even 10 minutes devoted to watching a reputable news show, reading a decent newspaper, or simply showing more interest in the things going on in the world today, that knowledge would make many more prepared for dealing with this very complex world as it is today. There is little excure for even the poorest people to not know what is happening.
I live in Massachusetts, and grew up in Boston. Massachusetts is in the top 5 most Liberal states in the country. If there is one thing that Massachusetts-ites have in common--after sports--is the love of politics. You will find people of all ages, races, genders, income level and political leaning knowledgeable and willing to discuss politics.
I guess that's why I feel more free in that sense, because it's difficult to remove myself from the equation. I might be poor, but I'm rich enough to have a sense of belonging, while I felt like a stranger in the 15 years I spent in SoCal. Different worlds, indeed.
