Irene: checking in from Boston

Winds averaging a few miles an hour. Gusts are up to 20, tops. No rain. They say that 2:00-5:00 is the period that will be worst: so far, so good..

Had a little bit of *real* weather earlier, power's out.

1. The Cape will catch the worst of it, as usual

but I understand they're not even going to close the bridges, something they do when winds gust to 70 up high.

Still, any wind with trees in full leaf sitting in saturated earth is a recipe for downed power lines and squashed roofs.

I just hope the jokers with the boats did storm moorings this time instead of letting them break loose and smash into bridges on the Cape. That's usually the biggest part of the mess after any hurricane down there.

2. Thanks for checking in! People tend to think that since it's

"just" a tropical storm, no problem-o, but you can still incur lots of damage AND/OR, as you note, power outages! Hang in there! :hi:

3. Up in Nashua, NH, we've had gusts all day and several inches of rain since last night.

We've also had a series of power failures, most just
seconds in length but one early one that lasted about
45 minutes.

Lately, it's gotten quite a bit lighter, but we'll
give it a few more hours before we declare everything
"fine".

4. Looking at the radar, looks like you were way worse off than us

5. Listening to the NH TV news, it sounds like we (Nashua) got off lighter...

...than many other parts of the state. And we're getting
close to the point where we could actually say, with some
safety, that "it's over". ;-)
