| Please don't criticize the President. |

Edited on Tue Sep-13-11 06:05 AM by kentuck
He is not going to change. He is what he is. Nothing you say will change the way he thinks or governs.
We need to fall in line and support him or we will end up with one of the nuts on stage last night as President.
In normal times, with the Republicans attacking Social Security, as they did last night, it would have been a golden opportunity for Democrats to defend Social Security and take it all the way to re-election. But these are not normal times.
The President is not listening to you so stop wasting your breath. Stop wishing that he was a progressive Democrat. He is not.
You have no choice. Don't try to change the conversation. Don't try to change the policies. You only create dissension and change nothing. Your argument is worthless. Give it up.

That only perpetuates DLC-type Democrats. The line has to be drawn somewhere. Spending just as much as Bush on wars, ignoring the environment or worse, condoning torture, trashing civil liberties, not addressing outsourcing, without which we will never have jobs back, not acceptable.
You would be right if this were Bush vs. Gore. But this is someone who is basically an old style Republican (i.e., sane but unfeeling) vs. nuts. This lesser of two evils theory has allowed the DLC types to drive the party further and further right for years.
If we're ever going to elect an actual Democrat again, people have to say these DINOs are unacceptable by voting third party or writing in (not by not voting, which only sends the message of apathy.)

Or do you imagine Obama has some kind of magic fairy dust he can blow on it to make everything go his way?

Please to explain why Obama's trashing the clean air rules, completely under the control of the Executive branch, has anything to do with Congress.

| 2. That is why it's pointless to primary Obama to move him to the left |
|
because if you believe he did not previously keep his promises, then why would he now. He would simply tell you what you needed to hear (based on the premise you thought he lied before) or simply allow you to believe things the way you want to believe them to be whether that is actually true or not.
Obama is what is what he is and likely always has been. Seemingly, many Democrats on the left got all caught up in the excitement of the 2008 campaign. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, not just looking good.

I don't think primarying Obama will move him to the left. But it may give the DLC pause if they realize being DINOs will lose them elections.

I think this is the perfect time to make your feelings known to the campaign directly via their website. What is bullshit is trashing him to others nonconstructively, and not even bothering to tell the campaign how you feel or what you care about. It's not like they aren't asking.
You have leverage now. This is the critical moment.
How many here really busted their asses for Gore in 2000? I didn't. I was busy. I didn't love him. He spoke strangely. I thought he seemed kind of stiff and awkward. Then there was all the oil shares, or did I find out about that later?
Anyway I didn't do squat for him, not one dime, not even knock on doors in my neighborhood or phone bank. No more. I don't need to love everything about the man. How many hearts would still be beating on this earth, how many military families lives would be unbroken, if we had helped? Who could have imagined how selfish and corrupt those guys could be? Who imagines that the puppetmasters behind those two sock puppets are any different, if they aren't actually the same people?
You can't tell me that our help wouldn't have mattered. The Republicans won because they were organized. (They didn't rightly win, and DU was just born, I know. )
I think about my kid and his future, and what we risk by handing this country over to President Perry and Vice President Bachman. This country can't take it. If we think we're unrecognizable now, think again.
There's plenty I don't like, mainly corporate lobbyists in positions of power. I do not want those guys there. Period.
Heading to bed for a much needed rest. Wishing you and all DU'ers peace and fortitude in this journey. Everyone will find their own answer. I know what I have to do.

I mean, he wasn't going to change. So what was the point of criticizing him? We should have all just got behind him and sang Kumbaya.

Bashing the President will only help the GOP crazy of the moment win in 2012.
But if that is what people want, they deserve what they will get.

But some people sure do make a fetish out of blaming him for everything and thinking he is all powerful and can do anything and being obsessed with him - lazily, since politics involves a lot more than the Presidency. I mean how many threads are there going to be on the President? One would think he was indeed a dictator and only he affected what laws get passed.

THEY overwhelmingly 'support' him, so the rest of us should just STFU.

But then neither do we. I consider the "criticisms" here to be lame and unhelpful and helpful to Republicans. In fact a lot of it sounds just like them.
I see a great deal of obsession with Obama and the Presidency from the critics rather than the supporters. HIs personality, his apparent super powers (talking about Congress and the Judiciary is just not interesting enough or too complex), who influences him - it's like talking about a rock star or some gossip celebrity.

This is just the way it's going to be. Maybe it is part of a grande plan to distract the enemy. They must really be freaked out when they stalk the DU an see Obama being bashed more here than anywhere. Maybe part of the strategy is to cause Repukes to stay home instead of voting, thinking it isn't necessary.
At any rate, even if there is a single thing wrong we will see people complaining. It is irritating, true, but it's not ever going to end.
I heard on the radio the other day that people who complain the most get paid more. So, Complaining does reward some with fortune. Personally, I go the route of working hard. But hey, complaining is another way to go too. (went off on a tangent there) Anyway, at least they are not nearly as dangerous as the most extreme right wing types -- they aren't just irritating but SCARY.

Now if it's ever in my power, DaveJ, the person who works hard will get the raise and the complainer not! IMO, complainers waste time. If they have a good idea for improvement, they could put it that way rather than complaining.
Like the primary challenger we'll never see. That person just won't do the work! But that phantom's supporters can complain and complain about the people who do!
