can't seem to find an original source for the figures, other than the blog it was posted from, "the middle of the road" at wordpress. In any case, I think theres' a concensus on the ratios--the US is fucked! It's bizarre that we let this happen!

a 2000 Business Week Survey which is reported here, among other places.
