Bill Maher on Rick Perry’s ‘N*ggerhead Ranch’ rock (Outatanding comments)

On Friday night’s episode of Real Time, host Bill Maher –in a segment reminiscent of our own primer on how not to respond to accusations of racism– pulled no punches in discussing the controversy surrounding the painted rock at Rick Perry’s “N*ggerhead Ranch.”

“If you find yourself prefacing more than half the things you say with ‘I’m not a racist, but …’ then you’re probably a racist.”

In a jab to the GOP, Maher added, “Overtly racist bullshit thinly painted over. Honestly, could anyone have written a better metaphor for the modern Republican party?”

1. I still don't understand. Does he own the ranch, or just rent it?

5. It's a lease arrangement. Lots of places have them.

You have a long term lease on a place, and you build your own camp on the property. They're popular up in Northern ME, where the logging companies own the property but they lease it to people along some of the logging roads for hunting camps.

He's not paying monthly "rent" to a landlord if that is what you're wondering. It's his house on someone else's property--he probably pays annually, or maybe even less frequently, but I do not know that for a fact. He's free to improve the land with buildings and what-not as he likes.

Now back to my other question: How many times has he said "Let's go up to Niggerhead for the weekend."

I am waiting for the picture of him in front of that five foot slab. We know there HAS to be one.

And I cringe to think of anyone saying such a thing, but I'll bet it's plenty of times.
