1337 means leet, as in elite. Replacing letters and replacing them with similar looking numbers is known as '1337 speak'. It's an internet fad among Generation X and the Millennials.

taxation without representation may have been the sum total of the demands at the boston tea party, but the declaration of independence had a lot more to say.
