The Venezuelan government rejected the recommendation made by five members of the UN Human Rights Council to amend the crime code and the organic code on military justice with the purpose of suppressing the crimes of vilification, defamation, libel and others punishing freedom of opinion.
Venezuela's decision is included in the final report of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) that was approved on Tuesday at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.
Caracas also dismissed the request made by other delegations to adopt legal measures to ensure the independence of judges.
