Fireman Catches Boy Thrown from Third Story of Burning Building

A Boston firefighter caught a 6-year-old boy who was dropped from the third floor of a blazing apartment building early Monday.

"Thankfully he landed in my arms and that's a good feeling," Lieutenant Glenn McGillivray told WHDH.

A suspect was in custody after the 6-alarm fire tore through a large apartment building in Roxbury. Firefighters rescued at least 15 people, including the 6-year-old grandson of Herbert and Judith Lamb, who live on the third floor of the apartment building and said they were awakened by an explosion and smoke.

The Lambs broke a window and dropped their 6-year-old grandson, Xavier, into McGillivray's arms.

There was a post here recently pointing out how some elected RWingnut wants to use prison labor to fight fires.
Although some incarcerated people do have humane feelings and care deeply about children I somehow don't
think this sort of thing would happen very often if it were not for a professional firefighter being on the scene.

16. Here in CA we use prison firefighter crews to fight seasonal wildfires.

I seriously doubt ANYONE is talking about using them for city fire crews, which requires a whole different type of training (and much more extensive). The inmate firefighter training and work is highly sought by inmates, BTW. It's very prestigious and is actually useful training for work once they get out.

It's not slave labor. The people in the program are there because they APPLIED to the program.
