20-25 foot waves forecast for.............. ... Chicago

A high wind warning goes into effect for the Chicago area Wednesday afternoon, and the city could see waves of up to 25 feet along the city's Lake Michigan coast.

Gusts up to 60 mph could lead to a replay of the high waves that knocked down runners and bikers last month along the lakefront (on this page) . Chicago Police closed the lakefront path that day, and on Wednesday they again warned people to stay away.

Milwaukee, along Lake Michigan to Chicago's north, also is expected to see high winds and waves.

By 7 a.m. CT, waves were splashing onto the lower portion of the path between North Avenue and Oak Street Beach in Chicago.

5. No running on the lakefront trail today!

We have a magnificent running trail that goes right along Lake Michigan for miles and miles. Many a time I've been splashed by water from big waves but if they are TOO big - no thankee.

Live to run tomorrow is my motto and its worked for 31 years.

The fam and I visited the Lake Superior Shipwreck Museum a few years ago. It was a very moving experience. One of the guys working there had been on the Anderson -- the ship that turned back to look for the Fitz -- that night. It was a real privilege to talk with him.

We live on the North Shore of Lake Superior and talk about the Fitzgerald every November.

14. I have been caught in 15-20 waves on a large fishing boat on Lake Michigan and almost died

Coast Guard had to come and save us. Hit something(probably a buoy), and began taking on water. Lots of water. Real fast too. Faster than we could bail it out by hand.

Never been so sick in my life.
