Turku is the former capital of Finland and currently the culture capital of Europe. Since 15th October there has been citizens camp in the central plaza - the name "Turku" means 'plaza' or 'market place', from Swedish 'torg'. There were 18 events in Finland on 15th October and currently other camps at least in Helsinki, Tampere and Vantaa.
Occupiers had at the beginning an old army tent with stove that was warm and cosy, seen in the couple first pics, but the after few nights the city officials ordered that it had to be taken down. Even though the order was not lawful, we did not defy the order to to maintain excellent PR with police, and people have been sleeping in the make-shift "construction" seen in two later pics, staying warm by sharing warmth of their hearts.
Movement has been growing slowly but steadily and as nights are getting colder the spirit is getting higher. Participants have been from all walks of the life - leftists, hippies, nationalists, homeless, union people, zeitgeisters etc. Conserts, talks, declarations, free meals, free hugs, being present - the sign in the first pic says if Finnish: You are gorgeous!
Yes we are! <3
