We're calling him Governor 1 Percent," said Colin Donnamura, 31, a graduate student at UAlbany who has campaigned against higher education cuts, and spent the past several nights in the park. "If you're in the top 1 percent you get a tax cut, if you're in the 99 percent you get service cuts. ... We think it's fundamentally unfair."
Donnamura said the refusal of Cuomo and legislative Republicans to renew that tax in this year's budget was a "paradigmatic example" of the economic inequality that, broadly speaking, has spurred Occupy Albany and other demonstrations around the country.
He said a march on the issue is being planned for Thursday.
