Iraq War Vet Injured During Oakland Protests

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - The clash between Oakland police and Occupy Wall Street protesters left a Marine veteran who served two Iraq tours in critical condition Wednesday after he was struck by a police projectile, a veterans group said.

Scott Olsen, 24, suffered a fractured skull Tuesday as he marched with other protesters toward City Hall, said Dottie Guy, of the Iraq Veterans Against the War. The demonstrators had been making an attempt to re-establish a presence in the area of a disbanded protesters' camp when they were met by police officers in riot gear...

Curt Olsen, a spokesman for Highland Hospital in Oakland, confirmed that the veteran was in critical condition but could not release any more information.

2. I also noticed something else about their lies

They said their reaction was because people threw things at them but the pictures I saw of the police that had paint on them were from the daytime. This violence by the riot police happened later in the night. Why is there no reports of the riot police deploying tear gas, rubber bullets, etc. during the day?

8. This shakes me to the core. I had two sons over in Iraq and it just hits home. If this man doesn't

pull through the whole damn bunch of the Police Force that participated in this should all be held responsible and who ever made the decision to use those "rubber" bullets need to be in jail now! I want someone in the media to find out who ordered them to be used! This is NOT going away!

15. If the vitals aren't stable, the med team can't do much.

No surgery, limited drugs, etc because they can't predict how the vitals will react. As condition degrades, fewer and fewer options.

If they get most of the returning veterans to sympathize with OWS, the circle of authoritarians and their paid retainers will continue to shrink. Hopefully Olsen will recover and become another major face of the national movement.
