| Even More Bat-Shit Loony Political Ad From Herman Cain |
|
http://reason.com/blog/2011/10/25/herman-cains-yellow-flowersHerman Cain's Yellow FlowersMatt Welch | October 25, 2011 You may have, during the past 24 hours, heard of a moderately weird Herman Cain ad that features smoking and weird timing. Well, I'm here to tell you that this Herman Cain ad is a good deal weirder: VIDEO AT LINK Guess the whole point is to get us talking about the bat-shit ads. By the way, with all the Koch money behind Cain, why aren't they more professional, or any kind of well-made at all?

| 1. Well, I kinda like this one |

Its a masterpiece compared to the other recent one. At least this one is intentionally funny in a slapstick humor kind of way. Plus I'm a huge fan of the old west setting.
But they still have Cain giving that bizarre slow grin at the end, lol.

| 3. Marketing genius. It's icky, but it is brilliant. |

The first one was a winner. People with bad teeth who smoke, who look like they don't eat well and are harried in their work, and who, particularly amongst some demographics, are unlikely to vote for a black guy, will watch that ad. That strange ad tells those people that it is "OK" to vote for Cain.
That new ad is a RIOT. I stayed with it--and it was long, so that's a plus for him. I'd sooner cut off my foot than vote for him, but the ad is a scream. It appeals to Western film fans, drinkers, people who like to fight over women, people who find humor in stupid stuff....and of course, the whole "regular guy" demographic.
It's way way different from the scary warning woman/lecturing man voice-over, with flags flying and choppy images, both dire and heartwarming, that's the usual flavor of the month.
In a backass way it reminds me of Wellstone's "gotta talk fast" Senate ads. Those were very different too, but they were fun and attention-getting.
Wellstone, of course, was the far better candidate.

No "I'm Herman Cain and I approve this message"
Thought 2010 was weird? 2012 will be Citizens United on steroids.
