Woman pushes man in front of NYC subway

Published: Dec. 28, 2012 at 1:17 AM

NEW YORK, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- A man pushed from a New York subway platform in front of a train Thursday did not appear to notice the woman who killed him, witnesses said.

Police were searching for the woman, described as young, heavy and apparently Hispanic, The New York Times reported.

She fled the subway station in the Sunnyside neighborhood in Queens immediately after the attack.

"We haven't determined whether it was random or if there was some connection yet," Paul Browne, the New York Police Department's chief spokesman, said. "But there was nothing from what the witnesses could see to indicate that they knew each other and he did not, according to the witnesses, appear to realize that she was approaching."

How many times does this have to happen before they put barriers between the platform and the tracks?

I have not used the subway in a long time. However, in both Boston and NYC, I have been on the platform when I feared that just the press of the crowd would land me or someone else on the tracks. Then again, if you stand well back, you may never make it inside a train when it does arrive. But now, trains are intentionally used as weapons, too. More cameras would also help. Heaven knows, pickpockets abound on subways, too.

1. Scary stuff, No Elephants.
I have never been on a subway. I like the Seinfeld where Elaine encounters the weirdo on the subway. He is obsessed with TV guide. I am obsessed with extinct elephants. This is a mammoth tooth.
