i have an idea, if the gov't can't find a crime they would prosecute if it were committed by joe blow, but they are using THAT crime to prosecute a ritter or an assange...maybe we should just accept that the gov't has acknowledged that the whistle blower hasn't done anything wrong and they are just reaching

I'm just not rushing to judgement one way or the other. My opinion is that neither of these cases is a setup. Ritter, after all, is a multiple offender, and still has a case against him working its way through the legal system.

But, that's only my opinion.

He was caught in a sting once, and the police let him go. Then he was caught a little later (I think a few weeks), and was arrested. Then a few years later he was caught again.

Those were just the times he was caught propositioning 12-17 year olds for sexual encounters. I'm sure he has done it dozens of other times when he never got caught.

That isn't the same thing.

And if people percieved as opponents of US hegemony were charged with sex crimes, it never happened to Chomsky or Zinn. Or Ellsberg.

But he has a track record of this behavior, and a previous conviction. So he wasn't brought down in a fabricated sting against leftists.

Not that people don't try to catch leftist leaders up in stings (Nader and Moore have been targets before of smear campaigns), but Ritter has done this stuff before and been caught, even before the latest accusation.

He was part of the UN Weapons inspection team in Iraq and knew all the nuts and bolts that made his criticisms both highly credible and dangerous. Assange is the messanger...the information came to him not visa versa. I previously mentioned the similarity in the charges, but not in the people involved. Assange is no Scott Ritter. If he disappears another Wikileaks will arise...there was only one Scott Ritter...and still is. A true American hero.

He had also said the exact opposite in the late 1990s, after the inspectors were out when he was angry at Clinton. The fact that he was ultimately wrong does not change that, in his case, there was reason to be skeptical.

The charges against him in PA and NY do not seem to have been made up - but only a trial will determine if he is guilty.
